After citing five reasons to buy an electric car, let’s move on to reasons not to buy one. Here are five selected for you.
The price
As we have detailed again recently, price is always a barrier to the purchase of electric cars. Compared to a model of the same size, the difference in budget is rarely enough to compensate for the advantages of the low running costs.
Autonomy
The manufacturers are making a lot of progress but the autonomy is still too low for some users and according to Test Achats, the charging times are important. However, it is possible to travel long distances in a Tesla, but these models are not within the reach of everyone.
Pollution
Although electric vehicle engines do not emit any particles when they are running, there is still some pollution due to dust from brake pads and tire abrasion. The main problem comes from the electricity that drives them and that is rarely produced cleanly. In addition, the manufacture of batteries, which are mainly composed of heavy metals, remains problematic. On the other hand, according to T&E, electric cars have much less impact on the environment than one might imagine.
Too quiet
In everyday driving, one can appreciate the silence of electric cars, but car enthusiasts will certainly miss the sound of a good gasoline engine. Not to mention the smell of gasoline and oil, which are part of the “classic” sensations. Be aware that at very low speeds, every new EV must make an internal combustion engine sound.
Garage essential
As the charging time of electric cars is important, it is necessary to be able to “plug in” the vehicle at home. A public electric terminal right in front of your house, a garage, a carport or a private parking lot are imperative to be able to take the road with recharged batteries. In Flanders, they have already decided that every application for a building permit must include several charging points or at least an electrical preparation.
